Due to its ecological relevance, this sea-front protected natural area in the Riviera Maya, within the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, represented a great challenge for PLANTA from research, landscape design, palette seection and execution. We take into account a number of regulations in the management plan. Native, at-risk and endangered species were included to ensure the balance and environmental continuity of the reserve. The intention of the landscape was organically integrated into the construction, with the long-term goal to completely vanish the architectural piece from the reserve; eventually, it will be completely covered by plants. The road and access were rehabilitated with a tree as the centerpiece, and vines that embrace some of the bodies of the building. Hanging plants were used on the ceilings, and the rooftop was intervened with a collection of local bromeliads. Inside, all the spaces and terraces were designed in compositions of clay pots with different local species.
